Abstract:
Forming metals by Laser is a new method in sheet metal forming technology, which has wide applications for the industries that have previously used large tools for this purpose. This flexible method can be used for forming metals in order to achieve the complex shape without using external force and complex tools. The aim of this paper is to use laser to achieve cap shape from a circular sheet. In order to achieve this purpose, the movement of laser beam on the full Fermat’s spiral was simulated in the subroutine section of ABAQUS software and then the effect of starting point on the waviness and displacement of edge and also on the curvature of cap was investigated. The results showed that presented algorithm for designing starting point decreases edge waviness of cap and increases the average displacement of cap. The experiments were performed using parameters that obtained appropriate from simulations. The comparison between simulation and experimental results has shown good agreement
