Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to present a new mathematical model for multi-objective flexible manufacturing systems. The first objective is to minimize mean job tardiness and mean job earliness and the second one, mean machine idle time, simultaneously. This problem which minimizes a mix of these criteria is in the NP-hard class of problems. Therefore, to overcome the computational complexity of the addressed FMS scheduling problem use of meta-heuristic method to tackle large scale problems is inevitable. In this paper, genetic algorithm is taken into consideration for solving the addressed FMF scheduling problem. In addition, Taguchi method is utilized to tune the parameters of the algorithm and analyze the parameters of the studying problem, simultaneously. Furthermore, to show the superiority and applicability of the algorithm a test problem is applied. Finally, the computational results illustrate the superior performance of the proposed genetic algorithm approach for the problem.
