Abstract:
The objective of this work is to prepare and characterize Sr- substituted nanostructured fluorapatite (FA) powders. Sr- substituted nanostructured FA powders with different Sr contents are prepared through mechanical alloying. The stoichiometric proportionality of Ca2+ in the powder is reduced from 10 by 0, 0.5, 1, and 2 percent which is replaced by Sr2+. The results show that after 5 hours of mechanical alloying, the Sr- substituted fluorapatite begins to form. Xraydiffraction (XRD) patterns and results of the inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) indicate that substitution of Ca2+ with Sr2+ ions in the FA lattice is successfully accomplished. The incorporation of Sr2+ ions into the FA causes the lattice parameters and crystallinity of the obtained powders to increase. Furthermore, TEM and SEM observations show that the crystalline size of Sr-substituted nano particles is approximately 30- 60 nm.
