Abstract:
In response to the demands for better mechanical properties and in an attempt to produce light weight materials considering the especial features of aluminum, researchers worldwide have beenexploring various techniques to strengthen aluminum in a cost-effective way. In this study 1wt. % AlN nanoparticles have been incorporated into aluminum matrix by milling air-atomized commercial pure aluminum with AlN nanoparticles in a planetary ball mill under an argon atmosphere for 12 hours. The powder has then been cold-pressed and hot extruded at an extrusion ratio of 27:6. The extruded rods were then machined to the creep samples and were creep-tested at variable constant loads from o.5 to o.65 KN at temperatures of 523K&573K.The test results reveal an improvement in the creep behavior of aluminum due to the incorporation of AlN nanoparticles.
