Abstract:

Background and Aim: The purpose was to examine the association between dietary intakes of antioxidants, antioxidant enzyme and the aerobic capacity and fatigue in young soccer players. Methods: 78 young male 22-25 years of soccer player were recruited in present cross-sectional study. All players were at least two years old at the football school. Consciousness conscientiousness, medical history questionnaire, anthropometry, dietary intake and fatigue were completed from all players. Plasma levels Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD) and maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) were studied. Results: Mean ± SD of all variable include of anthropometry parameters Weight (51 ± 0.21KG), Height (172 ± 6.3 cm), serum SOD levels (193 ± 2.48 U/ml), sun exposure scale (11 ± 0.13), dietary intake of vitamin E (12 ± 1.36 mg), vitamin C (83 ± 2.14 mg), beta-carotene (427 ± 9.98 mcg), zinc (10 ± 1.14 mg), selenium (51 ± 2.75 mcg), fatigue scale (34 ± 2.87) and Vo2 max (52 ± 1.33 ml/kg/ min) were measured. Relationship between vitamin E intake and VO2 max (r: 0,698, P: 0.034), vitamin C intake and VO2 max (r: 0,712, P: 0.031), beta-carotene and VO2 max (r: 0.908, P<0.001), plasma levels of SOD and Vo2 max (r: 0.707, P: 0.035), zinc intake and fatigue scale (r: -0.829, P<0.011), vitamin C intake and fatigue scale (r: -0.653, P: 0.043) were measured. Conclusion: Vitamin E, vitamin C intake and beta-carotene intake of had positive significant correlation with VO2 max and can improve aerobic performance in football player. In addition, vitamin C and zinc intake can decrease fatigue significantly.
