Abstract:

Background and Aim: Determination of the relationship between pH and the volume of drinking water and fluid intakes with risk of kidney stone in adult men.Methods: This case-control study included 120 adult men with kidney stone and 240 healthy controls matched by age and intake calcium, potassium and animal proteins. Measurement of pH drinking water and fluid done with electrical pH meter .Were collected from samples Questionnaires of physical activity, FFQ and fluid intake. To analyze the data, chi-square test, odds ratio, ANOVA and independent t-test were used.Results: Among two groups there were no statistically significant difference from BMI, physical activity and intake calcium, potassium, animal proteins) P> 0.05(. The most of drinking water used by participants in this study was tap water with acidic range.Conclusion: Our finding suggest that increase drinking water intake can be reduce risk of kidney stone and alkaline water intake is healthier than acidic water because of prevent to recurrence stone formation in patient, In addition if healthy person intake this water can be decrease risk of stone formation.
