ASSESSMENT OF LIFESTYLE AND ITS COMPONENTS IN ELDERLY OF TEHRAN

Abstract:

Background and Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the lifestyle and its components in the elderly of Tehran in year 2017.Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out as descriptive-analytical method. The research population included all elderly people in Tehran and the sample size was 200 elderly people from elderly care centers of Tehran. A questionnaire designed and validated by Babak et al. was used for a lifestyle assessment which includes prevention, physical activity, exercise and entertainment, nutrition, stress management, and social and interpersonal relationships. The data were analyzed through SPSS software version 21 using Pearson correlation, Student-t, and one-way ANOVA.Results: The results show the highest mean score of lifestyle in the prevention area was in the subjects with associate degree (64.99 ± 5.89) and in single subjects (60.75 ± 5.50) and the lowest was in the field of exercise and entertainment in people with elementary education (12.94 ± 4.12) and divorced (13.00 ± 3.00). There was a significant relationship between age and nutrition area (P< 0.05). The total score of lifestyle was 167.83 and 164.18 in men and women, that both sexes had a good level of lifestyle, although there was no significant difference between males and females, but in the stress and prevention area, difference between men and women was significant (P< 0.05).Conclusion: Considering the low score of sport and entertainment in the elderly people, the necessity of management and educational program to improve the status of elderly in this area of lifestyle in the elderly is recommended.
