ASSESSMENT OF DIETARY INTAKE OF MICRONUTRIENTS AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN REFERRING TO HEALTH CENTERS IN YASUJ

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Considering that pregnancy is one of the important periods in women s life, the purpose of this study was assess the dietary intake of micronutrients by pregnant women referring to health centers in Yasuj.Methods: The required information in this descriptive cross-sectional study were collected by the two questionnaire which containing FFQ with 168 items and demographic characteristics questionnaire. The questioners collected the information by personal interviewing from 235 pregnant women who had spent the second trimester of pregnancy. The analysis of FFQ was done by NUT4 software and the analysis of data was done by SPSS software.Results: The results of this study showed that the average intake of calcium and vitamin D was less than the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) during pregnancy; The average intake of iron, zinc, vitamins B6, B9 and A was less than the Estimated Average Requirement (EAR) during pregnancy and the average intake of vitamins B2, B3 and B12 by pregnant women was higher than the EAR during pregnancy.Conclusion: Apart from vitamins B2, B3 and B12 that were consumed more than the EAR during pregnancy, dietary intake of the rest of the micronutrients was less than the amount needed during pregnancy; Therefore, it is necessary to educate all pregnant women referring to the health centers about micronutrients and amount they need during pregnancy, because although most participants in this study were literate in terms of their level of education but this literacy did not include nutritional literacy.
