Abstract:This paper deals with a novel approach to approximate loads on foils in tandem with presence of free surface. In forward motion, presence of bodies in tandem causes disturbance in aft body inflow and as a result the lift and drag of aft body. In high-speed hydrofoil vessels that the ratio of Lift/Drag is considerable, it is important to have a good insight of best (or better) place of locating tandem foils to make this ratio higher. For this, it is possible to model both foils in CFD, but what ifjust fore foil was needed to be modeled for this purpose This could be done by implementing theory in combination with CFD that is the matter of this study
