The functions of intermediary organizations in innovation process: The case of science and technology park

intermediary organizations are believed to have a beneficial influence on innovation processes. This paper exploresthe functions of intermediary organizations which have been referred in numerous studies to outline the role ofintermediary organizations in innovation process. Based on literature review we provide an overview of the insightsfrom the broad literature and propose a classification of general functions of intermediaries. Then, the functions areclassified in six general categories, including: Mediation and linking, information and knowledge provider, bridgingand networking, Technological and innovative service provider, Identify and provide resource, Supportive andinfrastructure. We illustrate the classification through the use of examples of science and technology parks as aspecific type of intermediary structure. In this study, the functions of Pardis Technology Park are investigated andcompared with two successful science and technology parks in England and Finland based on developedclassifications. Finally, Suggestions for the development of Pardis Technology Park were presented
