Abstract:

Learning and teaching is going through transformation face globally. New generation of students areentering the education system with a lot of technological knowledge which poses a challenge to theeducation providers and the consumers. Termed „geeks, digital natives‟ or the „Net generation‟, theseyoung people are said to have been immersed in technology all their lives, imbuing them withsophisticated technical skills and learning preferences for which traditional education is unprepared.Grand claims are being made about the nature of this generational change and about the urgent necessityfor educational reform in response. In this paper, the authors draw on the use of mobile devicesfor learning which if well utilized can aid the education systems in most African Countries. The oldpedagogy of the teacher being the absolute source of information is being challenged by the array ofemerging devices like Smartphone, ipads, laptops and others which are readily available to theleaner‟s. Most countries have also invested on internet connectivity which can also be leveraged forlearning purposes. In our view, technology can be instrumental in bringing about a new interactive andcollaborative and engaging learning space.
