Abstract:Non-dimensionalization analysis is one of the most important concerns in engineering problems. The analysis can be helpful for generalization and simplification of problems. This analysis has been being used in fluid dynamics but, was regarded less in solid mechanics and structural dynamics. In this study, dynamic equations of stiffened cylindrical shells have been used for derivation of dimensionless variables. Variables, participated in vibration of stiffened cylinder shells, have been derived separately for simple cylinder shell, stringers (longitudinal stiffeners) and ribs (circumferential stiffeners). These variables were utilized for scaling procedure. Scaling is using a scale down model in order to anticipate behavior of full-scaled model (Prototype). Scaling also reduces the complexity and cost of tests. In this work, a novel set of dimensionless variable has been developed and implemented for scaling process. Then, three scaling methods have been examined. 1. Using dimensionless variables, equivalent profile has been calculated for stiffeners. 2. Different materials have been applied on shell& stiffeners. 3. Number of stiffeners has been altered. Finally, the results of the scaling procedures were compared with a finite element solution and good agreement has been achieved.
