Abstract:

In recent years a great deal of attention is focused on the efficient utilization of energy resource with minimum irreversibility production. There is a growing interest on thermodynamic analysis to minimize the exergy destruction in various thermal units and thereby to improve and optimize the performance and operation. In the present work, a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) is considered. Numerical simulation of HRSG has been done by using Engineering Equation Solver (EES). Then, the thermodynamic objective function (fth) has been presented. This function has been introduced in a way to make obtaining optimum pinch point temperature possible. By using suitable nondimensional operating parameters, the effects of main parameter on the fth are investigated. Results show for a specific non dimensional gas inlet t, fth is minimum at a specific NTUB suggesting a possible optimum value for the design, where the total irreversibility is low. Additionally, the fth increases with increase in t due to higher temperature difference between flue gas and water-steam which increases total irreversibility.
