Abstract:

Thin-walled structures have been extensively studied asenergy absorbing components. Their light-weight alongwith deformation pattern has made them suitablecomponents for crashworthiness purposes. In this studythree types of Structures with double Cylindrical,Rectangular and Hexagonal thin-walled are investigatedusing experimental tests as well as numerical simulation. Atfirst, a comparison is made between multi-cell tubes withdifferent cell size, cross sections and loading angles. Tocreate reliable comparison sets of structures, ratios of length(diameter) of the outer shell to length (diameter) of the innershell (L1/L2) of the structures have been chosen. Afteracquiring data from ls-dyna software the COPRAS Multicriteria decision making(MCDM) algorithm is used tochoose the best design.
