Abstract:
A two-dimensional Eulerian-Eulerian model approach, in which all solid phase particles are considered as a continuous phase with an arbitrary volume fraction, is used for simulation of gas-solid flow in a fluidized bed. Two different drag models, Gidaspow and Syamlal-O’Brien, have been examined for different superficial velocities, which are ten times greater than the minimum fluidization velocity, i.e., from 0.1 to 0.6 [m/s]. CFD results of the problem obtained from modelling the two-phase flow in ANSYS fluent 16.1 software, show that the Gidaspow model in lower velocities, while the Syamlal-O’Brien model in higher ones determines bed height more accurately with respect to reality. Moreover, results indicate that simulations predict inaccurate pressure drop at lower velocities but as the velocity shifts to higher values, the results become more precise. RMS deviation of simulation results for both suitable drag models for Bed expansion ratio and Local voidage at (Ug=0.38 m/s) are 8.03%. 15.73% and 5.53%, 17.93% for Syamlal–O’Brien and Gidaspow drag model, respectively.
