Abstract:

One of most important requirements in aerial robots modeling concerns the identification of the aerodynamics parameters. Among these parameters, researchers devote more attention to the values of lift force and drag toque coefficients. Several papers have reported the methods to separately evaluate the lift and drag coefficients. A novel setup is introduced to perform the related tests for both coefficients and reduces the necessary effort to identify a dynamic model. After a general introduction on the modularity of the system, this paper indicates that by a simple pivoting and some minor modifications, the measuring procedure would be feasible. For this purpose, after expressing the theoretical equations of lift force and drag torque, the system concept is demonstrated and a first assembly is proposed using Tetrix® components. An ultimate design is proposed to resolve the experimental system and by numerical simulation, the natural frequencies are located outside the excitation range. An experimental identification is performed for a common set of motor and propeller with available data. The achieved results proved well the efficiency of the proposed system to evaluate the lift force and drag coefficients.
