Abstract:

Background: Multiple sclerosis is a common progressive autoimmune inflammatory disease in central nervous system. Balance disorder is common in Multiple sclerosis patients. Objective: The aim of this systematic review was determine the effects of orthotic device on balance control in multiple sclerosis patients. . Study design: systematic review Methods: search performed according to Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome measure (PICO) strategy and included all of articles published between1980-present. Two researchers separately performed a literature search and assessed quality of selection papers with PEDro scale. Results: Finally seven papers were selected based on inclusion criteria. Three studies evaluated the effect of Foot Orthoses and four studies evaluated the effect of Ankle Foot Orthoses on balance control in multiple sclerosis patients. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that few and low quality studies assessed the effects of orthoses device on balance control in multiple sclerosis patients. Ankle Foot Orthoses had positive effect on balance control but Foot Orthoses had inconsistent results.
