Abstract:

Melamine formaldehyde (MF) is one of the hardest thermosetting polymers, which providesgood properties and performance. It is an amino resin and has various material advantages,such as thermal stability, excellent boil resistance, moisture resistance and surface smoothness,which lead MF to large industrial application [1]. The copolymerization reaction inthermosetting resin in the coating industry, an understanding the viscosity of the resin is veryimportant because it controls other factors such as flow rate, thermal and mechanical propertiesand dry rate [2]. The reactive blending of MF resin with rubber as a way of developingthe paint binder for emulsion paint formulation has been investigated. By increasing someparameters of MF resin such as viscosity and total solid content (TSC), other properties incompound same as melting point, density, reactive index and free formaldehyde emissionwere increased which shown in figure1, while other parameters such as moisture content anddry time were decreased. Also, the solubility of MF- rubber compound has been studied indifferent viscosity. Solubility of MF blending resin decreases with increasing the viscosity.This result is due to difference in molecular weight and crosslink density.
