Abstract:
series of novel cationic urethane gemini surfactants with polymethylene spacer chain length of 2, 4 and 6 carbon atoms were studied. Electrical conductivity measurements were performed in aqueous solution at 25 C to obtain important system parameters such as the critical micelle concentration (CMC) as well as the average degree of micellar ionization (). The change of Gibbs free energy (ΔG°) of micellization was also calculated. Results show that at experimental conditions, the supramolecular nanomicelles self-assemble spontaneously and their CMC values vary with spacer chain length. Further, the average degree of micellar ionization (α) is mainly determined by the size of the gemini surfactant nanomicelles.
