Abstract:

1. Project and GeologyThe project is an important link of the main, east west European railway line from Paris to Budapest. It consists of the section Stuttgart 21 and the line from Wendlingen to Ulm. More than 100 km of tunnels are presentlyunder construction in various geological formations for this outstanding project.2. Tunnel to Bad CannstattThe conventionally driven tunnel from the new station in Stuttgart to the suburb Bad Cannstatt is mainly located inleached Gypsum Keuper. Many buildings are underpassed by the two single track tubes of this tunnel. For one examplethe prediction of subsidence and the comparison with the results of monitoring are outlined.3. FildertunnelThe lower section of the Fildertunnel, which connects the main station with the airport of Stuttgart is presently drivenby a TBM through the lower section of the Black Jurassic and through all layers of the Keuper formations.Special emphasis is placed on the sections located in swelling Gypsum Keuper and in the claystones of the BlackJurassic formation.4. Tunnel to Ober- / UntertürkheimFor this conventionally driven tunnel the intermediate access shaft and tunnel are of special interest and are thereforeincluded in the presentation.5. SteinbühltunnelThe Steinbühltunnel is located in limestone of the White Jurassic formation, which in the geological past has beensubjected to Karstification. Also the conventionally driven tunnel may be of interest for the Iranian engineers.6. BosslertunnelThe two, single track tubes of the Bosslertunnel climb up the Swabian Alb mountains and are excavated by a TBMwithin the claystones and sandstones of the Black Jurassic formation. In the upper section it also penetrates the lowerpart of the White Jurassic formation. Here in a certain section squeezing rock was anticipated. To verify the rockmechanical parameters evaluated within the exploratory phases before tendering, an exploratory shaft and gallery havebeen excavated in an early phase of construction. The results are included in the presentation.
