Abstract:
Microbial infections are in the top ten causes of death worldwide, it has been considered as the main threat to public health and led to increased mortality risk globally. The new strains of pathogens such as resistant strains of the virus, bacteria, pathogenic fungi, and protozoa are raising serious concern. Conventional antimicrobial agents do not show therapeutic efficacy in combat multidrug resistant strain of pathogen. This review introduces the most popular applications of nanofibers in antimicrobial drug delivery for infectious diseases. The recent investigations of microbial infections, microbial resistance, mechanisms of antimicrobial drug resistance will be discussed. Furthermore, the current progress and future challenges in nanofiber technologies and application for obtaining effective antimicrobial treatment will be explained
