Abstract:

IntroductionRetinal degenerative diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, Stargardt disease, and retinitis pigmentosa are phenotypically diverse that leads to photoreceptor cells death. Retinal degeneration is difficult to treat so damaged tissues or organs have to be replaced with artificial devices, autologous grafts and donor organs. In this study, using of Stem cells have been suggested as promising for the treatment of degenerative disorders.MethodsBulb-c male mouse retinal damage via photic injury. By histopathological analysis the retinal damage will confirm and in the next step human limbal stem cells differentiate to photoreceptor like cells and evaluated by photoreceptor biomarker expression (cid, rhodopsin, nestin) by immunoassay analysis. The differentiated stem cell encapsulates in hydrogel and inject to retinal region. After 4 and 8 week the retinal regeneration will evaluated by histopathology assessment.ResultsThis project is ongoing and according to our hypothesis we expect to face with retinal regenerationConclusionFurther understanding of the retinal regeneration phenomenon will shed light on the cellular basis of retinal regeneration and expand the horizon for cell therapy for many intractable retinal degenerative diseases.
