Abstract:
This paper investigates the influence of gain compressionfactor on the modulation response of InGaAs/GaAsself-assembled quantum dot laser based on rate equations. Fordifferent gain compression factors the output power-currentcharacteristics, lightemissions of quantumdot laser have beensimulated and effect of gain compression factor changes onquantum dot laser is illustrated. Also, small and large-signalresponse of quantumdot lasers is studied and the impact of thegain compression factor is presented. It explains that increaseof gain compression factor, decreases small-signal modulationcharacteristics, nevertheless, improves large-signalresponse of quantumdot lasers. It helps to generate better lasersignal quality, higher eye and smaller jitter. The large-signalbehavior of a laser diode determines its capability for digitaldata transfer.Themodulation speed of quantumdot lasers is ofspecific importance if such lasers are considered for opticalcommunication systems.
