The effect of dual task exercise training on older adults’ balance: the allocated attention ability introduction

Abstract:

Background: Inability to allocated attention to concurrent task, it causes the older adults falling, So the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of tow type of dual task training on the balance of older adults. Materials and methods: The participants were 36 available and eligible older adults ofKerman province with the age of up to 65 which randomly divided into 3 groups based on Berg balance scale marks and each group consist of 12 older adults. Our training groups areincluding dual task under fixed priority , dual task under variable priority balance training andcontrol group. Experimental groups received 45 minute individualized training session, 3times a week for one month(4 weeks) . For analysis data we use ANCOVA and bunfforenitest. Results and discussions: The results showed that there was a significant difference between dual task training groups and control group in Berg balance scale and Tug test undersingle task condition, but there was no significant difference between dual tasks traininggroups. In addition, the results about Tug test under dual task condition showed that there was a significant difference between dual task training groups and control group and also betweendual task training groups. Conclusion: In general the results showed that dual task balance training improves balanceperformance in older adults but persons who training under dual task with variable priority had better improvement under dual task conditions.
