COMPARISON OF CONSCIENTIOUSNESS AND PSYCHOTIC-LIKE EXPERIENCES IN ADDICTED AND NORMAL PEOPLE

Abstract:

Background and Aim : The aim of this study was to compare conscientiousness and psychotic-like experiences in addicted and nonaddicted people. Methods : The research method was causative comparative. 35 addicted people and 35 nonaddicted people were selected by available sampling and responded to Fonseca-Pedrero et al s the oviedo schizotypy assessment questionnaire - abbreviated (ESQUIZO-Q-A) (2011), and subscale of conscientiousness in McCare & Costa´s big five personality traits (NEO PI-R) inventory (1985). The data were analyzed with T independent formula.Results : Findings showed that there are significant differences between variables. Nonaddicted people got higher and significant scores in conscientiousness than addicted people. Also, addicted people got higher and significant scores in all of subscales of ESQUIZO-Q-A (ideas of reference, magical thinking, unusual perceptual experiences and paranoid ideation) at the level of 0.05 and 0.01. Conclusion : In regard to findings that showed psychological factors especially conscientiousness and psychotic-like experiences are one of main factors of addiction, we should prepare the plans in counseling and treatment process of the addicted people so that tendency to addiction and relapse decrease.
