Abstract:

Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrom(PCOS) is a health problem that affects one in 10 women of childbearing age, and is characterized by hyperandrogenism, menstural disturbance, and subfertility. On the other hand, Autism spectrum disorder(ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition. In some studies, the association between autism and PCOS has been reported.this systematic review study was conducted to examine the relationship between maternal PCOS and the occurrence of autism in offspring.Methods: The present systematic review was studied all observational studies by August 2018 in four steps in English and Persian data banks including, ,WOS ,Medline ,Science direct ,Elsevier ,PubMed, Scopus ,Embase, Google Scholar،Sid and Magiran.The first, using appropriate keywords and Boolean Operators depending the data banks all related studies were considered. In second step, a list of titles and abstracts of those studies was provided. In order to selecting relevant studies and considering study s inclusion criteria.In the third step, researcher used STROBE, a 22 items checklist tool for quality assessment includes studies reporting.At the final step, Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used for proper quality assessment of selected studies. In order to ensuring a complete reporting the present systematic review we utilized PRISMA checklist.Results: Of 22 studies identified, 7 met all the inclusion criteria. The total sample size include 317/399 children(41136 autismic, 276265 control). Considering these samples revealed that in 85% of the studies there was a correlation between maternal PCOS and Autism spectrum disorder in their children.Conclusion : Our findings suggest that there is an association between maternal PCOS and ASD and the Polycystic ovary syndrom in women is the risk of ASD in offspoing.
