Abstract:

This quasi experimental study explores the effect of textual enhancement formats on the intake of phrasal verbs in English as a foreign language among grade eleven native Persianspeaking students. The study was conducted in 10 sessions distributed over 6 weeks with aproficiency test, a pre-test, an immediate post-test and a delay post-test research design. The participants of this study were 120 of pre intermediate level students of high school in Shiraz.Depending on the received enhancement format in the reading contexts as the treatment, they were assigned into three experimental groups (bold group, highlight group and two cues group)and one control group. The results revealed that textual enhancement affects the intake of phrasal verbs positively. Among four groups, two cues group (who received highlight and bold formats simultaneously) got the highest scores in immediate and delay posttests.
