Abstract:

The present study aims to find attitudes of Iranian undergraduate students toward English language learning and compare their attitudes in terms of field of study. For this purpose, 60 undergraduate engineering students and 60 undergraduate humanities students studying in universities of Arak were selected as the participants of the study. An attitude questionnaire including 45 statements about behavioral, cognitive, and emotional aspects of attitude toward English language learning was used as the main instrument for data collection. The collected data were then analyzed using descriptive and inferential analyses including mean calculations and T-test and One-Way ANOVA test. The findings of the study revealed that Iranian undergraduate engineering and humanities students had a sort of positive attitude toward English language learning regarding behavioral, cognitive, and emotional aspects. However, this positive attitude was not so strong. Furthermore, no significant attitude difference toward learning English language was found between engineering students and humanities students and both groups showed one kind of positive attitude about English language learning.
