Abstract:
Forest resource monitoring has the capability to conquer the effects of climate change because it is one of the main techniques used for the prediction of stored CO2. With data mining of remotely sensed images, the total forest biomass can be evaluated. This paper reviews the advantageous notions of the multifarious approaches to forest biomass prediction, with emphasis on the science of remote sensing. It also refers to land cover identification, feedstock specific assessment in forests, and stock CO2 estimation in the different stratums. The specific methods and additional models of biomass evaluation have been described so that spatial analysis of their structures can be determined, while focusing on ground-based, aerial, satellite information, and ultimately calibrated patterns from LiDAR. Altogether, according to the results of previous studies, it can be expected to expand scientific horizons from these technologies, moving toward forest biomass prediction, planning of forest ecosystems and eventually conquering global warming.
