Abstract:
The performance of alpha-alumina membrane has evaluated for treatment and reuse of high organic and inorganic gray water. The efficiency of alpha-alumina microfiltration process demonstrates satisfactory rejection and medium permeance for grey water treatment which was worthy for proposes such as: irrigating gardens; toilet flush tanks; car washing. Effect of microfiltration was observed on reduction of chemical oxygen demand (COD); biological oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS); total nitrogen (TN) and total dissolved solids (TDS). Depending on the variation in feed loading; about 50–70% COD reduction was achieved in the single-stage MF at 10 min of filtration with operating pressure of 2bar. Permeate quality in terms of organic loading was coincident to standards level of reusing and exceptional irrigational purposes.
