Abstract:

The development of a single-element DFE model for a thin, rectangular, homogeneous plate subjected to the fully clamped (C-C-C-C) boundary condition is presented. Kirchhoff plates are commonly used to model aircraft wing and fuselage skins with low curvature and the ully/partially clamped boundary condition is frequently found when these plates are riveted along their four edges. It is shown that using a single-element Quasi-Exact DFE model highly accurate results for both lower and higher natural frequencies of fully clamped 2D structural elements could be easily determined within a fraction of the time and resources consumed by the conventional FEM method.
