Abstract:
Plates used as bearing structures in aircrafts usually suffer from defects as cracks. Therefore they should be either replaced or repaired somehow. In the present study, the effect of adhesively-bonded repair patch on stress intensity factor (SIF) is investigated for different crack types (semi-elliptical, through-thickness) located at the center of a rectangular aluminum plate. Results show that repaired plated have significantly lower SIF than unrepaired ones. Also it was seen that double-sided patches have much higher effect on SIF than singlesidedones. The structure is numerically modeled using ABAQUS and ZENCRACK followed by a finite element analysis to calculate J contour integrals and indeed SIF.
