Abstract:

A numerical study of flow past a square cylinder at a Reynolds number of21400 is carried out using two different turbulence models namely Shear Stress Transport (SST) and Scale Adaptive Simulation (SAS) by the open-source CFD package OpenFOAM 2.3.0 Two and three-dimensional simulations are performed to determine drag coefficient in addition to mean and RMS velocity profiles in the recirculation and wake regions. Results show that drag coefficient along with mean velocity profile are well-captured by ٢D SAS model. Three-dimensional SAS model represents acceptable prediction not only for the mean velocity but also for fluctuating velocity profile.
