A REVIEW OF IMPACT OF VASECTOMY ON THE MALE SEXUAL FUNCTION

Background and Aim : Today Vasectomy is one of the most common ways of conraception in men. This surgery is done by cutting the vases and blocking the two ends with two methods of catheterization or ligating the vas terminals. Male sexual function after vasectomy may be different. The purpose of this study was to answer the question whether vasectomy affects male sexual function Methods : This study is a review article using Persian and English research and reviewe articles on Internet sites including Google Scholar , Pub Med,Scopus ,Ovid , SID, Magiran, Science Direct, From 2014 to 2019. 15 articles were selected as research articles and reviewed with content approach analyzed.Results : The results of the studies showed Vasectomy does not have a negative impact on the sexual function, even Positive effects on five domains of sexual function, including sexual desire, satisfaction with sexual activity, reaching orgasm, erectile function, and overall satisfaction with sexual activity. And it also reduces sexual dysfunction in couplesConclusion : Vasectomy has a positive effect on men s sexual performance and can even improve it. Therefore, it is recommended to educate and counsel men on awareness and determination of the positive and negative aspects of this surgery as well as reducing the false beliefs about it in family planning counseling
