Abstract:

Isotactic polypropylene (iPP) is one of the most widely used polyolefins because of itsoutstanding physical and chemical properties, such as stiffness, excellent resistance tochemicals, a relatively high deformation temperature, and low density [1]. However, the meltstrength of commodity iPP drops rapidly as the temperature rises. The low melt strengthof iPP leads to poor processing properties in extensional flow-dominated processes, suchas thermoforming, extrusion coating, blow molding, and foaming. It is necessary toimprove the melt strength of iPP to further widen its applications [2]. One of way to improve of Polypropylene is functionalization of this polymer. Hydroxyl functionalization ofpolypropylene was successfully synthesized by a graft copolymerization from maleic anhydride -modified polypropylene (PP-MAH). PP-MAH reacted with to produce a hydroxyl group containing polypropylene (PP-OH). The structure of obtainedcopolymer was investigated by1H NMR, FTIR spectroscopy.
