Abstract:
At this study, conductive functional graphite nano-platelets (FGNP) were incorporated into zinc-rich epoxy primer (ZRP) to improve its corrosion protective properties. Zn-FGNP coatings were prepared in 0.25%, 0.5 % and 0.75% and 1% w/w of FGNP substituted by the same amounts of Zn micro-particles in epoxy coatings containing 75% w/w of zinc dust. The thicknesses of dry films were obtained 95 ± 5 μm. SEM micrographs showed uniform distribution of FGNP nano-sheets in the coatings. Salt spray, cathodic delamination and pull-off adhesion tests showed significant improvement in corrosion resistance and also adhesion and cathodic delamination resistance of ZRP. The best results were obtained for ZRP containing 0.75 wt.% of FGNP
