Abstract:

Introduction: Evidence suggests that decreased sleep duration or quality may increase diabetes risk. Poor sleep quality is having common among Patients following diabetes. Pain, stress, anxiety and poor sleep quality may be improved by massage therapy. Objective: This study evaluated whether massage therapy is an effective technique for improving sleep quality in patients following of type 2 diabetic. Method: Participants included type 2 diabetic patients referred to health centers of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of medical sciences who were randomized to divide into a control group and a massage therapy group. Participants comprised who were intervention group to three nights without massage and three nights with massage therapy, respectively. The patients were evaluated on the following mornings (i.e., 72 hours) by Pittsburgh sleep quality questionnaire. Participants kept a sleep diary during the study period. The data are analyzed by SPSS 21 software.Results: One hundred forty-eight of type 2 diabetic patients were enrolled in the study during hospitalization period, 12 of whom were excluded due to complications such as heart attack, Infections ..... The remaining 136 who were randomized into control (n = 67) and massage therapy (n = 69) groups. The participants in the massage therapy group had fewer complaints of fatigue and tingling and pain the hands and feet on after and before intervention (p=0.000) in addition, they reported a more effective sleep during all three days (p=0.01) when compared with the participants in the control group. Conclusion: Massage therapy is an effective technique for improving patient recovery from complication of diabetic because it reduces fatigue, tingling and pain the hands and foot and improves all sleep dimensions except for the rate of its.
