Abstract:

Curcumin, a natural polyphenol derived from the rhizomes of turmeric (Curcuma longa), is a highly lipophilic molecule. Although curcumin showed potent anticancer and cancer preventive effects due to targeting various signaling pathways its clinical usage is limited due to poor bioavailability. Nanomicelle formulations of curcumin have been developed to enhance the bioavailability and the solubility of this lipophilic compound. In this study the cytotoxicity of curcumin nanomicelle against mouse melanoma B16F0 cell line was evalution in vitro by MTT assay. Size of the particles was measured by particle size analyzer ( Malvern). Our results indicated that the IC50 concentration of the micelle form of curcumin showed lower toxicity than that of non-micelle form ( 12.767 ÂμM vs 9.291 ÂμM respectively). Size of the a nanomicelle particle is 30 nm. The micelle form of curcumin is expected to increase the efficacy of curcumin against B16F0 skin cancer cells.
