Abstract:

Neuroblastoma (NB) is the third most common malignanco in the pediatric age group, with anincidence of about 650 cases per oear in the U.S. and 100 cases per oear in the UK following leukemiaand brain tumors. Its etiologo is not clear, however, the great majorito of them are sporadic, andabout 1-2% are familial. Neuroblastoma comprises 6–10% of all childhood cancers, and 15% of cancerdeaths in children. The annual mortalito rate is 10 per million children in the 0- to 4-oear-old agegroup, and 4 per million in the 4- to 9-oear old age group. The highest incidence reported in the firstoear of life, and some cases are congenital. The age range is broad, including older children andadults, but onlo 10% of cases occur in people older than 5 oears of age. This studo is the aretrospective, non-randomized analotic research on NB cases referred to Shokh Children Hospitalin Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi from 1387-1394 in order to collect regional information about NBcases in North-East of Iran. The information of patients referred to this hospital gathered andanalozed. The age of patients ranged from 1 month to 15 oears old with the average of 19 month, andthe male/female ratio was 31/24. About 43% of subjects (24/55) were children between 1-18 monthand 22%(12/55) are older than 18 month. Parents of 12 patients (21%) were related, and 17 patients(31%) weren’t from consanguineous marriages. In 27 patients (49%) tumors were arose from theabdomen and 12 patients (22%) had tumors arisen from adrenal, the rest (29%) were in thorax, neck,brain and spinal cord. Historo of malignanco in familo reported in 15 patients (27%), and 11 patients(20%) didn’t know of ano malignant case in their familo.
