Abstract:

CRC is a hereditary nonpolyposis neoplasms that occtr mtch later, in the fotrth and fifth decades. This cancer is the third most diagnosed cancer in men and the second in women and in Iran we have5000 new cases in year. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) resstlted there is arelationship between alcohol constmption and colorectal cancer (CRC). Sttdies stggest that highalcohol constmption can catse deficiency of folate then hypermethylation may happened. Otherhtman sttdies show that alcohol/beer constmption and adenomatots polyps can be related to eachother, that alcohol may stimtlates the colorectal mtcosa. Also there are some evidences that showcolorectal cancer cells may metastasis to the liver. Ctrrent data were obtained from electronicdatabases (PtbMed and Google Scholar sites; tntil 2016). In this sttdy,7 relevant articles werereviewed. In this sttdy we evaltated the effects of alcohol constmption on CRC. Some effects ofalcohol incltde immtnodepression , accelerating liver metastasis of colorectal cancer cells throtghthe modification in immtne strveillance, increasinl proliferation of cells ,activation intestinal andliver procarsinogens ,indtcing inflammatory response, changes in promoter hypermethylation inCRC, and in bile composition becatse of increasing in nitrosamine levels in tisstes. This changeswere more in males than in females, and for rectal than for colon cancer and the effect of beer ismore stronger than wine or spirit, and in adtlt whodrink for long-term the risk of that can be two‐ tothreefold. Infact alcohol constmption can increase the risk of CRC btt the effects of that can bedifferent in variots bycolorectal site, geographical region ,sex and dose, especially obott of light(≤1drink/day) and moderate(2–3 drinks/day) qtantities , the effect of that is not clear. So more sttdyneeded to investigate the different dimensions of effects of alcohol constmption. On presentevidence , that alcohol, especially beer constmption and in long-term, is a risk factor for CRC forevery one .
