Anticancer effects of urginea maritima

Cancer is a common and chronic disease. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the world s second largest cause of death after cardiovascular disease is cancer. Therefore, finding effectivepreventive and therapeutic approaches will be more valuable. Current problems in the use of chemotherapy, radiation therapy and multiple side effects that are caused by their use for patients, as well as the resistance of cancer cells to common treatments, have led researchers to take new drugs with greater efficacy. Nature is an amazing source of the most suitable compounds with a high chemical content. Therefore, the combination of traditional and herbal treatments, along with common drugs, can increase their efficacy and reduce their side effects. This study is review article in which theanticancer effects of urginea maritima are investigated. The databases used were PubMed, ISI, SCOPUS, Google Scholar, SID. In the studies, it was found that the scientific name urginea maritimacontains compounds of glycoside (bufadinolide), mucilage and flavonoids, and by inhibiting the sodium-potassium pump, the antioxidant effects, etc., it can inhibit cancer cells. This plant is now usedas a diuretic, cough syrup and so on. In recent research, cytotoxic effects and antiproliferation have been demonstrated in the neuroblastoma cell line, lung cancer and cervical cancer. (IC50: 22 μg / ml).If the extract of this plant is effective in inhibiting the types of cancer cells in the culture, future clinical studies on the clinical efficacy of this extract will also be carried out
