10-years study of children with leukemia in the sheikh mashhad children s advanced pediatric hospital (1396- 1386)

Leukemia is the most common type of cancer in children. The most common type of leukemia in ALL children, followed by AML, is the second most commonly reported childhood cancers in the world. Itssurvival is different in different parts of the world.Since the prevention of this disease is much more important than its treatment,Identification of individual indicators and children s disease can be promising and used for preventative purposes in these patients. This study is a descriptive cross- sectional study. The statistical population of this study was patients who had been referred to the Sheikh Mashhad Children s Hospital for the diagnosis of leukemia (acute and chronic) from the beginning of the year 2004 to the first six months of the year 1396. Data were collected by a questionnaire including two parts of personal information and disease information. Data were gathered through observation and recording of information in patients files and finally, analyzed by SPSS software. In this study 1149 children were examined of these, 713 patients (62.6%) had acute leukemia (ALL) and 436 (37.94%) had chronic leukemia (AML).The mean age of children was 4.23± 2.24 years. 60.6% of children are boys and 39.94% are girls.Common symptoms include bleeding, pallor, fatigue, anorexia and fever. According to research findings, the majority of children were aged 2 to 6 years. Considering the high prevalence of leukemia among children and its negative effects on the lives of these patients, it is necessary to pay more attention and improve diagnostic and therapeutic methods for early diagnosis and faster treatment in these patients
