Abstract:

A field experiments were conducted in two sites to evaluate the specific resistance and energy utilization efficiency of two subsoiler combinations (S and SS). A single tine subsoiler (S) was also used for comparison with SS. The double tines were arranged one behind the other with lateral distance (swivel) equals to 70cm. The longitudinal distance between the two tines is 70 cm. The soil texture of both sites was silty clay loam soil. The moisture content and the bulk density of site 1 and site 2 are 13.54% and 1.49 Mg.m-3 and 19.24% and 1.38 Mg.m-3 respectively. A single tine subsoiler (S) was also used for comparison with SS. Both subsoiler combinations were provided with wings at some stages of the experiments. S and SS were used at operating depth of 30, 40, 50 and 60 cm. The results showed that SR for S and SS decreased significantly (p<0.01) with operating depth. The lowest values for SR at operating depth of are 60cm 91.04kN/m2 and 69.33kN/m2 in site1 and site2 respectively. SS reduced SR by 28.61% and 17.34% compared with S insite1 and site2 respectively. The addition of the wings to SS decreased SR by 29.52% and 17.36% compared with S in both sites respectively. EUE for S and SS increased significantly (p<0.01) with operating depth. Its values are 11.20 and 14.80m3/MJ for S and SS at the operating depth of 60cm in site1 and site2 respectively. When SS was used EUE increased by 29.16% and 16.37% compared with S in site1 and site2 respectively. It also increased by 32.16% and 36.39% when SS was provided with wings, comparing the values of EUE for SS with wings with that of S with wings the increase is 29.70% and 17.66% in site1 and site2 respectively. The highest values for EUE are recorded for SS with wings at operating depth of 60cm in site 1 and site2. These values are 17.14 and 12.72m3/MJ in both sites respectively. SS surpassed in performance S, its SR lower while its EUE higher than that for S.
