Abstract:

Background: Healing of burn wounds is one of the problems of medical science and it is very valuable to find a medicine or substance that can heal these wounds with the least complications. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of egg whites formulation on healing the second-degree burn wound. Methods: This study was conducted in Taleghani Hospital, Ahvaz, Iran in 2017. A total of 90 patients were randomly divided two groups based on inclusion criteria. The intervention group was dressed with egg whites formulation and silver sulfadiazine cream and the control group was treated with placebo and silver sulfadiazine cream. The parameters of healing burn wound on days 1, 7 and 15 were evaluated using the Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool. Results: The mean scores of wound healing were 21.51±5.7 and 13.75±1.83 in the control and the intervention group respectively after 15 days. There was a significant statistical difference between two groups based on statistical tests (p<0.001). The mean duration of wound healing in intervention group was significantly lower than the control group. Therefore, there was a significant difference between the two groups regarding the percentage of wound healing (p<0.001).Conclusion: The findings of this research showed that egg white formulation is an appropriate ointment for burn wounds. It seems that the use of this method, along with common methods, improves the recovery rate for chronic wounds and as well as the health status at the societal level.
