Study of burns registered in hospitals under covered medical sciences universities in 2016

Abstract:

Background and Aim : Burn constitutes amount 1% of global burden of diseases (3). Burn is determined as one of the most important causes of death all over the world. In addition to financial burden of burn, it can increase stress for the patients and their families (1). For more effectiveness of burn prevention approach, it should be based on pathology and epidemiology of burn (2). Methods : Aim of this research is determination of injuries and death rates of burn from registration system of hospitals under covered medical sciences universities all over the country in 2016. Present research is a cross sectional study. Every injured persons of burn who were referred to hospitals of medical sciences universities were investigated in 2016. Registration system of accidents data in the hospitals is according to ICD-10 Classification . Results : Overall 68903 burn injured person were studied in 2016 (5% all injuries). The most rate of burn (in 1000 population) from Khuzestan (2.54), Yazd (2.23) and Ardebil (1.88) provinces. The most burns were related to middle age group (37.6%). Furthest burns were in urban area (88.9%). The number of burn deaths was 147 (3% of total death of injuries). These deaths just sere registered in emergency units of the hospitals. Some burn deaths occurred out of the hospitals (in accident scene and after hospital discharge) and they were excluded in the research. In terms of accidents place, the most burns were occurred at home (79.9%). Furthest burns were in males and middle age group (37/5%).Conclusion : Considering consequences of burn, it constitutes big portion of accidents burden. Provinces have deferent rate of burn, therefore they need deferent planning. Burn Victims are in both sexes and all age groups, especially in males and middle age group who are community productive force. Results of this research could be useful to plan intervention of burn prevention.
