Investigating of the high risk regions of Tehran state regarding to electrical injuries

Abstract:
Background and Aim : Electrocution is an unusual kind of burn which causes high disability and death. Investigations have revealed majority of electrical injuries occur in construction workers. This study investigated high risk regions of Tehran state regarding to electrical accidents for bringing up preventive strategies. Methods : This retrospective and prospective research was done on patients which had referred to Motahhari hospital in 2015-2017 due to electrocution. The patients’ information was collected by the researcher made registration form. This form included two parts demographic and concerned burn data filled by means of medical files and calling patients. Then data was extracted and analyzed by SPSS version 20. Results : Information of 133 patients was registered in this study. The mean age of the patients was (31.36±13.25) years and most of them were male (%94.7). Electrical injuries often occurred in workplaces (%63.1). About half of injured patients were construction workers (%45.4) and significant numbers had electric jobs (%20.2). Results indicated that majority of electrical injuries happened in suburbs of Tehran (%64). Of all, Shahriar (%19), Islamshahr (%18) and Varamin (%16) had the highest statistics, respectively. Also, incidence of injuries in northern and eastern regions of Tehran city were more common. Conclusion : Regarding to the results, at first, it recommended administering preventive strategies in high risk areas of Tehran State. The most effective measure in this field is insulation of electrical cables before beginning of building projects.
