Abstract:
This paper focus on the potential benefits of nano particles for asphalt mixtures used on pavements. Asphalt mixtures were prepared with various amount of nano zinc oxide (ZnO), and compacted using the marshal compactor. Fatigue life of asphaltic samples was assessed by using of the Nottingham Asphalt Tester equipment. Comparisons of nano-modified asphalt and conventional mixtures are made based on results of indirect tensile fatigue tests, which preliminarily demonstrate the great potential of using nano zinc oxide in asphalt mixture for improved resistance against tensile strains. Based on the results, it was found that the addition of nano particles would improve a mixture’s fatigue performance or decrease the tensile strains in most cases. The detailed effects of nano zinc oxide on the Fatigue life of nano- modified asphalt mixture are discussed in this paper.
