Abstract:

Simultaneous remediation of contaminants from soils specially clayey soils is a challenging problem in soil remediation. In this paper, effect of applying ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) as electrolyte solution instead of water in order to enhance simultaneous remediation of chromium and phenol in clay soil was investigated. 3 experiments were carried out under the conditions of voltage gradient of 1, 1.5, and 2 v/cm, to determine the effect of voltage gradient on remediation efficiency. Results showed that remediation efficiency is influenced by this parameter. Application of EDTA in both anode and cathode when the voltage gradient is 2 v/cm, leads to 83.45 and 99.21 % chromium removal and reduction. Also phenol removal reached to approximately 50%.
