Abstract:
Shear modulus and damping ratio are the most important material properties that determine the behavior of soils under dynamic loadings. Basically, when a soil is subjected to earthquake or cyclic loading, the shear modulus and damping ratio of the soil are influenced by many factors. These factors are divided into two categories: factors related to soil specification and load characteristics entered into the soil. This paper presents a review on the dynamic soil properties and their influencing parameters. Earlier studies on dynamic soil properties are presented systematically to highlight the importance of the each influencing parameter.
