Abstract:

cancer is a essential public health problem, which is the main cause of death in big countries and increases based on global statics. To decrease its mortality an new markers should be identified. Hepcidin is a small peptide produced in liver in response to anemia or inflammation. It has been shown that this hormone increases in cancer cells. Therefore, it can be used as a tumor marker to detect cancer.the purpose of this study was to compare the level of Hepcidin in the serum of patients with stomach cancer and to compare it before and after treatment as well, to assay the possibility of using this hormone as a tumor marker in diagnosis of stomach cancer. This study was performed on patients undergoing endoscopy and gastric biopsy for diagnosis of gastric cancers during six months from February to August 2017. The sample size was measured in addition to demographic characteristics including age, sex, time, history of infection, place of residence, history of smoking, treatment, and history of hepcidin levels in their blood plasma. 10cc blood samples were taken after diagnosis of gastric cancer as well as after treatment, ie. surgery and chemotherapy. Patients were evaluated for hepatin levels by clinical trial and tested by ELISA kit hepcidin-25, which was completely the automatic sonnet was placed In this study, 44 patients were examined, gastric cancer patients were 29 and control group was 15 patients and results showed that hepcidin average level was 20 ng/ml and 17.47 ng/ml with significant difference in cases and controls respectively. Hepcidin average level before treatment was 40.95 ng/ml and 19.96 ng/ml after treatment that despite the dramatic decline, there was no significant difference.the level of serum hepcidin was higher in patients, may be it can be used as a marker in cancer diagnosis, although using this biomarker still requires further studies
